Chuck-A-Rama

Hello From Day 6!

Today started with us getting up at 5am in an attempt to check out and photograph the sunrise at the Grand Canyon, also giving us a head start for our 8 hour drive to Las Vegas (ill explain more on why it took this long further on) We thought we were all packed, ready and organised but could not find the second card key for the hotel room and had to search everything to find it! This put us nearly fifteen minuted behind and we missed the sunrise we didn’t let this get us down and still got some nice photo’s.

We stopped at a few more places along the way this morning a beautiful lookout giving us a fantastic view of the Colorado river, the ruins which really were just ruins and the Desert view Watchtower. I’t so glad we got to stop here and view this part of the Canyon Greg and I both agreed that it was one of the nicest views of the Canyon (it was a shame it was so early that we didn’t get to climb the watchtower) I stopped here and had a chat with a man about his gorgeous dogs, a miniature pug and miniature schnauzer, they were such cute and friendly dogs wanting to play with me, I am missing my Appa a lot!

We got moving again and enjoyed watching the scenery change again, the Canyon becoming smaller when we could see it and looking like this amazing crack across the land, the Indian markets we’re everywhere along the road, with many just setting up for the day as it was still so early.

The drive was long and I found it really hard to stay awake for Greg haha, I had a lot of micro naps today! We headed the longer way around the Canyon to Vegas so as to see a bit more of the countryside and go through a bit of Utah, excited to try out a buffet place only in Utah ( and possibly one more state) called Chuck-o-Rama this place as Vicki describes it really is Sizzler on Steroids! $10 each (before tax) for all you can eat everything! And boy did we eat! Trying things like Corn bread, and Weird but yummy Chicken salads, they had mash potato with bacon in it, mac and cheese, onion rings, pork belly, crispy chicken, pizza, fish, chips, spicy chicken and an amazing salad bar and much more, the dessert bar was amazing and I’m ashamed to say I made myself sick trying a little of everything! haha you could even make your own slushies! Greg also made himself feel sick eating only savory foods, this place was so good! I wish we could visit it again and pace ourselves this time, as it was such good food and good value! ( we only had an hour to stop)

The drive was hard after chuck-o-rama as our bellies were so full and all we wanted to do was nap! Again the scenery was amazing! Cliffs and mountains everywhere and then all of a sudden they fade away to flat desert with mountains way in the distance, it also starts to get very hot! (okay we agree it is hot, but a very dry heat) We finally make it to Las Vegas and get ready to check into the Excalibur … we get inside and there is a massive line up! There check in system had gone down for all the MGM hotels,at least 6 Hotels on the strip!some people had already been waiting for and hour and a half to check in! Not much more to do than wait, we stood in line they finally started to manually check people in it took two hours before we finally got served to check in! This was not fun! Getting upstars we had a rest for awhile and the excitement of being here made us forget about being cranky, we headed out to explore the stip a bit and get to our show at the Rio where we were seeing Penn & Tellor. I do wish we had checked how far away the Rio was (its not on the strip) as we had to walk about 1.3 miles, we finally got there and picked up our tickets, the show was fantastic, and so entertaining Both of us enjoying it! The only downside was that I was absolutely freezing the entire show, I had brought a thin cardigan as it was stinking hot outside and I didn’t think I would need it! And I soon discovered all the casino’s seem to make there air con freezing.

Now it was time for the 1.3 mile walk back, we were tired, but enjoyed the sights catching the Bellagio water show on our way back ( very impressive!!) its so packed on the strip, people trying to sell you water or beer, flicking cards with naked ladies on them and lots of in your face homeless people begging, some even holding signs saying they need money for weed! Crazy, We got back to our hotel showered and fell into bed for the evening.

Sorry for the lack photo’s of the strip for this post, we left the camera behind as we couldn’t bring it in for the show.

Sorry for being a slack blogger! Thanks for Reading!
