Day 18
Today was the drive from Big Sur to Pismo Beach and what a lovely day it was! We headed off a bit later this morning, having a little sleep in (Greg awake after 7, I am always up before haha) I grabbed an Orange and Poppy seed muffin from the store for breakfast, this was very nice and huge!
Heading on our way this morning, I could see something out in the water and quickly realised it was whales!! We pulled over and watched them moving through the water, so glad to have the zoom lense for our camera! The whales were shy only letting us see their air holes and a few flippers. Just before we left (after taking many photo’s and enjoying watching them) one of the whales put its tail out yay!I continued to see whales for quite awhile more whist we kept driving.
The view is awesome here and Greg really enjoyed the windy road drive. We stopped a special place called Jade Beach, climbing all the way down to the beach part this was very steep and I was not happy about getting my new Nike’s dirty! (I’m such a sook) But it was well worth it as we had a fantastic time digging through the rocks and finding many tiny pieces of Jade! We both could have done this all day and left this place feeling very happy and energised! What a great start to the day so far!
The fog finally starting to clear again we found the Elephant Seal beach and Wow the males are big! Two were fighting in the water and another two on land, this was so funny to watch and what was funnier was watching them move across the sand it looks like their trying to do the worm haha! The noises they make are also unlike any Seal I’ve heard before, im so glad we got to see them!
Driving onwards, I see something in a paddock and tell Greg to stop! I see Zebra’s! He almost didn’t believe me, but turned around anyway. How strange to see a heard of Zebra, not in a zoo and in with cattle. Both of us wondered why they were there, another interesting thing on this drive!
Heading into Pismo Beach we had some time to kill before checking in so visited a Best Buy (electronics store) and another Walmart (Walmart rocks!) Now time to check in, it was quite a run down hotel, but what a great view we had and just meters from the beach, which we soaked up and walked along, putting our feet in the freezing water, I do not know how people swim here!
We went walking up and around the block, searching out somewhere for dinner later and looking through the souvenir shops. Heading back for the camera and tripoid for sunset photo’s we decided to head straight to the beach neither of us very hungry as we had a big lunch and a bit over everything deep fried, which was almost all that was on offer. This was lovely just sitting together on the sand, talking and watching the sun go down behind the fog.. this seems to be the usual and the fog is so thick no pretty colours or light escapes whatsoever. We headed back to the hotel, curling up for the evening and watching some more trashy American TV haha.
Thanks for reading!
